I don't know if I ever thought I would get to fly over an erupting volcano in my life. Given the opportunity to do so, how could I not? I booked a sightseeing flight out of Myvatn. After a short 15 mins to get there we circled around Bardbunga over and over again getting multiples views and angles. We tend to think of rock as hard and impermeable, to see it in its liquid form was a cherished experience. It also helped understand all of the strange and wonderful ways rock is sculpted through lava and water across Iceland's waterfalls, coastlines and mountains.
